In the current COVID-19 situation, many hospitals and health care workers around the US and the entire World are running out of personal protective equipment(PPE) and the maker community is here poised and ready to help! Several grass roots organizations have begun forming and have been asking for people with 3D printers to print components for 3D face shields. Josef Prusa (of PRUSA 3D printer fame) and his team have designs that have been approved and accepted for medical use in various locales, and so that is where you come in!
This is a call to arms for all makers with 3D printers in the Triangle NC area! Several members of our meetup group, The Triangle Area Makers, have begun sending the 3D printed components to Operation Shields Up in California. They have the processing facility and the materials for all other components of the mask and they are just looking for help with the printed bits. We are asking for members of the Triangle Area Makers group to considered supporting this effort and putting your robotic minions to work!
Comment on any of our social media platforms including our Facebook Group and Discord channel if you would like to discuss lending a hand in this time of need!
What about other medical pros in need a bit closer to home?
One website that is uniting maker communities together is GetUsPPE.org.
They are a fantastic resource to register as a PPE maker if you have 3D printing, CNC, laser or sewing skills!
There is also Masks for Docs, who is a large spread organization, helping those medical professionals around the world, including NC. They have a volunteer signup page that will allow you to be linked up with people around your immediate area who have submitted a request for help with them.
We will be updating this page when we are aware of specific facilities in the Triangle Area are accepting donations of 3D printed items.
